Theologian in Residence
When I was young I moved from the rolling green hills of the Lake District, England to the oldest town in Texas. In Nacogdoches my heart was seized by the notion that the God of the universe wanted me to be his son. What did I have to offer him? And that’s the point—he offered me everything in Jesus. I couldn't resist.
After wandering in my early college years, and getting kicked out of Bible school in England, I returned to the States and discovered intentional discipleship. During this time I met and married my wonderful wife, Robie, at University of North Texas. We have lived and ministered in Minneapolis, Boston, and Austin, where we planted and led City Life Church for 17 years.
I enjoy reading, writing, listening to great music, smoking my pipe, and going for walks.
My hope for Citizens Church is that we would be a people who are continually astonished by Christ, compelled to love one another, and equipped to share the gospel with the world. I pray for us to be an equipping church that raises up theologically reflective leaders, pastors, and church planters to spread gospel hope in all kinds of cultures.
